Meet the Astatine team


Over 30 years of experience in the energy sector with a technical and commercial focus. Founder and former owner of CES Energy, sold to Centrica Plc in 2019. Developed large-scale energy projects globally and served as an energy board adviser for SGB in the Middle East. Holds an engineering degree from Trinity College and an MBA from University College Dublin; completed Duke University’s Leadership for Growth program. Recognised industry leader and keynote speaker at international energy conferences.

Tom Marren

Co-founder & CEO

14 years of experience in energy, specialising in project development and financing. Key in building Astatine, leading solar PV and heat pump projects, and securing €25m for Astatine PPA projects. Former Commercial Manager at Centrica Business Solutions Ireland and CES Energy. Delivered financial close on significant biomass ORC/CHP project in Ireland. Holds an engineering degree and a master’s in energy engineering from University College Dublin. Expertise in renewable energy, commercial modeling, and project financing.

Pat Nolan

Co-founder & COO

50 years in the engineering sector with a focus on commercial leadership. Served as CEO and COO of Mercury Engineering for 7 years, overseeing operations in Ireland, the UK, Europe, Russia, the Middle East, and Africa. Managed daily operations, implemented strategic initiatives, and drove organizational change. Led Suir Engineering’s growth, increasing revenue from €75 million to €260 million. Served in key industry roles including chairman of the CIF IR committee and member of various CIF committees.

Mick Kennedy

Operations Director

20 years in engineering with a technical and management focus. Currently CTO, overseeing technical and engineering activities. Former CTO at Hybrid Energy and engineering manager at Hanley Energy GCC, with experience developing nearly 2,000 hybrid units in West Africa. Holds degrees in mechanical engineering and mathematics, and a master’s in mechanical engineering from Trinity College Dublin. Specializes in renewable energy, product development, and battery storage.

Alan Smyth

CTO

20 years in financial services and investment, focusing on strategic funding and management. Former Founding Partner at Move Capital, investing in European B2B businesses. Previously Director and COO of Marlet Property Group, contributing to its growth into a major real estate developer. Spent 15 years in investment banking in New York and London, advising on financing and strategic matters. Holds an MBA from Columbia Business School and a BA in Economics from Princeton University.

Silvia Shiliashka

Finance

40 years of international experience in supply chain management and operations. Held senior roles at Diageo, Imperial Chemical Industries, and Amoco Oil. At Diageo, he led global strategy, logistics, and European operations. Currently Chairman of the Guinness Enterprise Centre, supporting 150 businesses. Holds a Bachelor’s in Chemical Engineering, an MBA, and Chartered Director qualifications, with additional training from Oxford University in sustainable corporations.
