Food & Beverage manufacturing has the largest energy consumption of all industries in Ireland
Industrial scale heat pumps are widely used across Europe with almost 20,000 installations per year. The International Energy Agency found that the most common installations occur in the food and Beverage industry.
Heat pumps utilise waste heat produced in Food and Beverage manufacturing, e.g. from chillers and coolers, and upgrades this heat to offset fossil fuel boiler requirements. We can install this renewable heating system with zero downtime for your business.
Decarbonisation of the food manufacturing sector through renewable heat and electricity solutions offered by Astatine can make a significant contribution to reducing our Ireland’s CO2 emissions.
Our clients in the Food & Beverage sectors are experiencing savings in excess of €1 million and carbon reductions of up to 80%. If your company uses medium grade heat, our team of highly experienced engineers can work with you to assess your energy requirements and design a renewable system to reduce reliance on fossil fuel boilers and create an alternative, high-quality energy heat source.
• Heat Pump Technology can deliver up to a 100% reduction in onsite fossil fuel usage and CO2 emissions.
• The technology can produce energy savings of up to 65%
• A solution delivered at scale can typically provide 400% efficiency gains compared to a traditional heating system
At Astatine, we specialise in reducing carbon emissions for large energy users across multiple sectors. We design and deliver innovative technical & commercial solutions to optimise energy efficiency and cost savings while delivering a CO2 emissions reduction roadmap. We specialise in identifying and implementing renewable energy technologies tailored to clients’ specific requirements.
Food and Beverage manufacturing often consumes large quantities of steam or hot water. Astatine offers heat pump and renewable solutions specifically tailored for these industries.

Slaughterhouse Heat Pump Installation Example: The first example below outlines the installation of a 800 kW industrial heat pump which supplies 90°C hot water in a slaughterhouse in Switzerland. It has been operational since 2011 demonstrating the maturity of the technology in this sector and it is saving over 2.5 GWh of energy each year.
Chocolate Heat Pump Installation Example: The second example below outlines an industrial heat pump in the food & beverage sector is the example of the chocolate factory in the Netherlands below. The heat pump in this plant supplies 63C hot water with a COP of 5.9, so for every unit of electricity it produces 5.9 units of heat, which underpins the energy and carbon savings from the unit.
