Our Team

Over 30 years of experience in the energy sector with a technical and commercial focus. Founder and former owner of CES Energy, sold to Centrica Plc in 2019. Developed large-scale energy projects globally and served as an energy board adviser for SGB in the Middle East. Holds an engineering degree from Trinity College and an MBA from University College Dublin; completed Duke University’s Leadership for Growth program. Recognised industry leader and keynote speaker at international energy conferences.
Tom Marren CEO
50 years in the engineering sector with a focus on commercial leadership. Served as CEO and COO of Mercury Engineering for 7 years, overseeing operations in Ireland, the UK, Europe, Russia, the Middle East, and Africa. Managed daily operations, implemented strategic initiatives, and drove organizational change. Led Suir Engineering’s growth, increasing revenue from €75 million to €260 million. Served in key industry roles including chairman of the CIF IR committee and member of various CIF committees.
Mick Kennedy Operations Executive
Finance leader with extensive experience across corporate finance, M&A, and strategic financial management. Currently driving financial strategy and innovation, with expertise in restructuring, process automation, and financial governance. A Chartered Accountant with advanced certifications from Trinity College Dublin and the Law Society of Ireland. Actively engaged in industry leadership and financial best practices.
Colette Hynes Finance Director
14 years of experience in energy, specialising in project development and financing. Key in building Astatine, leading solar PV and heat pump projects, and securing €25m for Astatine PPA projects. Former Commercial Manager at Centrica Business Solutions Ireland and CES Energy. Delivered financial close on significant biomass ORC/CHP project in Ireland. Holds an engineering degree and a master’s in energy engineering from University College Dublin. Expertise in renewable energy, commercial modeling, and project financing.
Pat Nolan COO
Over 15 years of experience managing the commercial aspects of large-scale construction projects across multiple countries. Skilled in identifying commercial risks, managing subcontractor accounts, and ensuring compliance with contract obligations. Holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering and a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics. Currently serving as a board member at the National Maternity Hospital.
Jill Beck Commercial Manager
Over 20 years in energy and infrastructure, driving innovation and sustainability. Currently leading strategic initiatives at Astatine, delivering cutting-edge decarbonisation solutions. Expertise spans renewable energy, heat and power systems, and large-scale industrial projects. A proven track record in reducing carbon footprints, optimising energy efficiency, and spearheading transformative projects for global clients. Holds a Data Center Specialist Accreditation (DCPRO).
John Mc Ardle Operations Director
20 years in engineering with a technical and management focus. Currently CTO, overseeing technical and engineering activities. Former CTO at Hybrid Energy and engineering manager at Hanley Energy GCC, with experience developing nearly 2,000 hybrid units in West Africa. Holds degrees in mechanical engineering and mathematics, and a master’s in mechanical engineering from Trinity College Dublin. Specializes in renewable energy, product development, and battery storage.
Alan Smyth CTO
40 years of international experience in supply chain management and operations. Held senior roles at Diageo, Imperial Chemical Industries, and Amoco Oil. At Diageo, he led global strategy, logistics, and European operations. Currently Chairman of the Guinness Enterprise Centre, supporting 150 businesses. Holds a Bachelor’s in Chemical Engineering, an MBA, and Chartered Director qualifications, with additional training from Oxford University in sustainable corporations.
David Varian Business Development
Experienced projects and contracts director with a track record of delivering large-scale infrastructure and renewable energy projects globally. Expertise in project execution, contractual negotiations, and commercial strategy. Strong leadership in driving operational excellence and ensuring safe, profitable project delivery. Holds a BSc Honours in Quantity Surveying from Trinity College Dublin and a Diploma in Construction Economics and Management.
